Dogs are known as man’s best friend or companion but they could turn against their owners by being an overnight vampire. A 3-week- old baby identified as Susannah Jean Murray has died after being bitten on the head by one of her family’s dogs.
It was gathered that Susannah was left alone and unattended to in her bouncy for five minutes with three pit bulls serving her as only companions.
Susannah’s nanny who walked in after five minutes saw her bleeding severely on the head and simultaneously noticed that one of the dogs had blood around his mouth. .
Baby Murray was who taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital where she underwent nearly seven hours of surgery did not make it. She died around 2 a.m. the following morning.
Sgt. Terry Dixon with the GRPD when speaking of the attack said the dog who attacked the child was about 2 years old and had been quarantined along with the two other family dogs at the Kent County Animal Shelter.
Dixon said the dog attack was an eye opener and a critical reminder for parents not to leave
their children alone with dogs or pet.
Neighbours resident in the Grand Rapids neighbourhood told the Detroit Free Press that the
dogs were a dangerous nuisance, referring to them as “mean and vicious”
Another neighbour called Hawa Abdi, recalled her experience that when dogs get out the fence,
they used to chase them
The incident is still undergoing investigations with GRPD and Child Protective Services.
