Government College Ibadan Old Boys Cricket Club (GCIOBCC) dispatched Lagos Asians Cricket Club
(LACC) by 6 wickets in the Super Four Semi-Final of Club Cricket Committee League to book a date
with league champions Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club at the prestigious Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval on
Sunday, June 10, 2018.
Captain Chimezie Onwuzulike of GCI won the toss and elected to field first a decision that
eventually paid off for the Ibadan based team at the end of the match.
First innings saw LACC posting 160 runs all out in 39.4 overs no thanks to the superb bowling of the
Okpe brothers who wrecked havoc with the ball by grabbing 5 wickets between them. The younger
brother Sylvester Okpe claimed 3 wickets, 29 runs in 7.4 overs and Isaac Okpe had 2 wickets, 22
runs in 7 overs.
Middle order batsman Mohammed Rafiq top scored for LACC with 39 runs off 53 balls, while
Pradeep Choudhary had 32 runs off 45 balls and Sharma Mahesh contributing 24 runs not out.
The hurdle in the second innings looked an achievable task in 50 overs with Chimezie
demonstrating leadership not only on the field but also with the bat by top scoring with 62 runs,
Opener Daniel Ajekun dropped 35 runs, Osita Onwulike had a quick fire 20 runs and Rotimi
Adesanya dropped a paltry 14 runs to bring the game home with 117 balls to spare.
Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club (ILCC) in the other Semi-Final had earlier defeated Rising Stars Cricket
Club by 64 runs to set up the tantalizing final between arguably the two best sides in the league on
Sunday at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval.
The final game will either be for revenge or supremacy confirmation for either of the sides since
ILCC snatched the league title from GCIOBCC at the death. This final is a perfect opportunity to both
teams to settle their scores.
Speaking ahead of the final, Abiodun Abioye, Captain of Ibeju believes “It is a dream match most
cricket enthusiasts want to see and we promise ourselves to give our all knowing the magnitude of
that game”. And on the part of Chimezie Onwuzulike, Captain of GCI, “Ibeju vs GCI is always a classic
match going by the talent both teams parade but I hope we can have the last laugh after we
narrowly lost the league title to them”.
Looking ahead to that big game, here are some of the players expected to light up the occasion for
ILCC Players : Abiodun Abioye, Ademola Onikoyi, Friday Udoh, James Chukwu, Bimbo Adu, Seye
