In a bid to prepare the educational sector in Nigeria for the 4th industrial revolution, a chartered accountant, researcher and consultant, Mr. Bode Agusto, MFR, says, Nigerian universities should provide professionally and financially rewarding careers to their academic staff, to enable them to compete during the next industrial revolution.
He said this at the 1st Arthur Mbanefo lecture series at the University of Lagos.
Considering the importance of education generally, especially university education, Mr. Bode Agusto, stated, that apart from providing professionally and financially rewarding careers to their academic staff, universities need to be humble and update their skills, by learning from academics in the more advanced world, in order to regain competitiveness during the next industrial revolution
This was said in the first edition of the Chief Arthur Mbanefo lecture series, which took place at the University of Lagos on Thursday.
Mr. Bode said, “to enable universities compete during the 4th industrial revolution, Nigerian universities must diversify their funding bases, unbundle infrastructure, into those that support tuition, research and other infrastructure and carry begging bowls around, to raise money from philanthropists to fund infrastructure projects.
Speaking at the lecture, the Vice-Chancellor University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, commended the commitment of Chief Arthur to the project, until it was completed and ready for use.
He stated that since the government cannot fund university education alone, it is important that individuals pick projects, adopt a student and make necessary donations to improve the standard of university education in the country.
He, therefore, called on all alumni of the school, to emulate Chief Arthur by picking a project in the university, to help improve, support and upgrade the existing facilities, to enable students well-grounded locally, which as well will give them the ability to compete globally.
Facilitator of the lecture series, Chief Arthur Mbanefo, also gave his closing remarks and comments about the event after which he and Mr. bode were presented gifts, for gracing the occasion
