President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded names of two ministerial
nominees to the senate seeking their approval for the nominees’ appointments.
A communication on the ministerial nominees was sent to the Senate on
Tuesday night.
Information gathered from sources close to theleadership of the senate revealed
that the two nominees would fill the slots of Kogi and Gombe states in the
federal cabinet.
The nominee from Kogi state will succeed the late Minister of state for labour,
Mr James Ocholi (SAN) who lost his life alongside his wife and son in a ghastly
auto crash while the nominee from Gombe state would replace former minister
foe Environment, Hajia Aminu Mohammed, who is now the Deputy Secretary
General of theUnited Nations.
Reports have it that the list of the ministerial nominees arrived the senate few
hours after the upper chamber of the national assembly suspended consideration
of the presidency’s request to approve the appointment of 27 Resident Electoral
Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in
protest.
The lawmakers had protested against the failure of President Muhammadu
Buhari to remove Mr Ibrahim Magu as Acting Chairman of the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission EFCC after the law makers turned down his
nomination two weeks ago.
