Maiduguri, the Borno state capital woke up in flames this morning as about eight lives were reportedly lost when a female suicide bomber detonated explosives at a mosque.
Speaking on the incident, the head of Borno State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Ahmed Satomi, stated that the explosion occurred about 5:30 in the morning in the London Ciki area of Maiduguri during which fifteen others injured in the early ugly incident
The NEMA boss told newsmen that the suicide bomber killed eight people and injured 15 others during the incident.
Ha said the mosque was being guarded by civilian JTF (joint task force militia) during prayers, unknown to them, the girl was being pursued from another part of the town by residents who were suspicious of her movement at the time and efforts to prevent her from gaining entry into the mosque was abortive as she suddenly bolted into the mosque and set off her bombs.
Mr. Satomi added that three other female suicide bombers were located in Maiduguri at about the same time; two were killed in the Mammanti area as they tried to cross the ditch around the city perimeter while another set off her explosives in the suburb of Simari.
This attack follows similar occurrence of last week when about 19 people were killed and 23 others injured after four women detonated their explosives in the Molai Kolemari area of the city.
