Nigeria’s Minister of Budget and National Planning; Senator Udoma Udo Udoma has advocated collaboration between the Federal Government and Nigerian academicians in terms of research, monitoring and evaluation of projects, programmes and policies under the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) of the incumbent presidency.
Speaking today at the University of Lagos, Sen Udo Udoma who gave a breakdown of documentation and implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) reassured Nigerians of President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to ensuring a restoration and diversification of the Nation’s economy through the cardinal principles and objectives of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).
The minister was a keynote speaker at the Inauguration of the Centre for Economic Policy Analysis and Research (CEPAR) being another research centre of the University of Lagos.
The ceremony which held at the Afe Babalola Hall of the University featured a Policy forum on implementation of the Federal Government Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).
Sen Udo Udoma who was represented by the Director of Macro in the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning; Mr. Tunde Lawal gave an overview of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) describing it as a child of necessity caused by the economic recession, corruption, insecurity and terrorism among several other challenges plaguing the country.
He assured of President Buhari’s avowedness to accelerate non-oil revenue generation, rid the Nation of corruption, improve infrastructures and drive industrialisation, goals which he said requires collaboration of all stakeholders in the country.
Earlier in a remark to welcome participants, the Vice chancellor, University of Lagos; Professor Rahamon Bello said the event was part of the institution’s commitment to research as a tool for National development.
Represented by the VC-elect and incumbent D.V.C, Academics and Research of the University, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, Prof. Bello described the Centre for Economic Policy Analysis and Research (CEPAR) as one of the 6 new research centres recently approved by the University with the aim of attracting more foreign and indigenous collaborations for the advancement of knowledge and development.
This was corroborated by the D.V.C in charge of Development services; Prof. Folasade Ogunsola who expressed UNILAG’s readiness to support policy makers with needed facts, data and information so as to ensure proper policy formulation and implementation.
Prof. Ogunsola particularly charged Nigerians to be positive while telling the Nigerian story as against the falsehood which dominates the international scene about Nigeria and her citizens.
The University of Lagos Centre for Economic Policy Analysis and Research (CEPAR) according to its Director, Prof. Ndubisi Nwokoma has the specific objectives of building capacity on economic and business issues, conducting evidence based policy analysis and conducting researches as a way of making useful inputs into government economic policy formulation.
It featured a panel discussion during resource persons analysed the objectives and implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) of the Federal Government.
