TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY AIDED MY TENURE – UNILAG VC

The outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Rahamon Bello has attributed his successful tenure to transparency and accountability in dealing with the entire staff, students and the general University of Lagos community.

Professor Bello stated this while addressing newsmen at the Valedictory Press Conference/ Meet the Media held on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at the Senate Chamber of the University where he also commended the Staff Unions of the University for their mutual understanding and cooperation during his tenure.

While presenting his scorecard, the Vice Chancellor pointed out that the University under his administration was able to improve infrastructure despite lack of financial autonomy.

He said under his regime, the El-Kanemi hostel is being upgraded into a master edifice with all rooms ensuite while Engineering Lecture Theatre by Julius Berger Hall, Scholars Hostel, Remodel the Sodeinde Hall of Residence, Tayo Aderinokun Lecture Theatre at the Faculty of Business Administration, Construction of  the Academic Publishing Centre,  Public Procurement Centre and the ongoing nine storey University Library were other legacies of his tenure.

He furthermore highlighted awards won by the University during his tenure which included Best Tertiary University (Federal) on e-Governance by the NITDA, University with the Best Use of Technology (Federal University) by the Nigerian Technology Awards and The University Website /Portal of the Year 2016 by the Nigeria Technology Awards.

Prof. Rahamon Bello’s tenure began on November  11, 2012 as substantial Vice Chancellor of the University, following the demise of the then Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adetokunbo Sofoluwe,  congratulated and advised the new Vice Chancellor elect, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe to be objective, transparent, straightforward and always follow the rules during his tenure in office.

He appreciated the efforts of the immediate past Governing Council under the leadership of Prof. Jerry Gana, (CON) and the present Governing Council under Dr. Wale Babalakin (SAN) for their unflinching support in steering the affairs of the University to greater heights while asking that they extend the support he received to the incoming Vice Chancellor Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.

The press conference over, action shifted to the, The University of Lagos Women Society (ULWS) Female Hostel.

The edifice was commissioned by the Vice Chancellor; Prof. Rahamon Bello.

The president of ULWS and wife of the Vice Chancellor, Mrs Momudat Bello said the accommodation challenges faced by the female students prompted the ULWS to build the hostel.

Mrs Momudat Bello reeled out features of the hostel to include all rooms en-suite, 24 hour uninterrupted power supply and 24 hour uninterrupted internet services

Mrs Bello said all floors are with modern equipped kitchenettes and laundry with water heater, She commended the efforts of Prof. (Mrs) Nwokoro, the project coordinator and the entire members of the University of Lagos Women Society (ULWS) who weathered the storm and saw the project to completion.
