A female Lawyer, Yewande Oyediran who was accused of stabbing her husband; Oyelowo Oyediran, in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
The trial judge; Justice Muntar Abimbola of the Oyo state high court delivered the verdict as penalty for the case of manslaughter against Yewande Oyediran.
Justice Abimbola held that while the prosecution proved that the defendant caused the death of the deceased, it failed to proof that it was done intentionally.
He, however, ordered that the seven years imprisonment should commence from Feb.2, 2016 when she was arrested.
The judge said that with the evidence before the court, the convict and her late husband had frequently engaged in domestic violence.
Yewande Oyediran was a staff of the Department of Public Prosecution in the Oyo State of Ministry of Justice.
She was accused of killing her husband with a knife after a disagreement on February 2, last year at their residence in Akobo area of Ibadan.
Late Oyelowo Oyediran, a France-based businessman hailed from Gbongan, in Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State.
It would be recalled that the deceased Lowo, as he was fondly called, was stabbed to death by his wife on February 2, at about 6.10 in the morning at their home on 30, Abidi Odan Street, Akobo, Ibadan, after a heated argument ensued between them.
The couple had no child before the unfortunate incident.
The ruling has attracted wide spread reactions especially on the social media, while some questioned the sincerity of the judiciary over the case, others condemn the ruling out rightly describing it as one which does not support the fight against domestic violence.
