Media organizations in Nigeria should set up academy for the training and re-training of media practitioners and would-be practitioners in order to bring about their development and versatility in the profession.
Vice Chancellor University of Lagos, professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe disclosed this while congratulating the Chairman Channels Television Mr. John Momoh on the Channels Media Academy- a recent feat achieved by the media outfit, during a courtesy visit to the station in Lagos.
Professor Ogundipe said the visit was necessitated by the need to appreciate the channels TV Chairman for the support the University has been getting from him with regards to the 50% rebate given in payment for coverage of convocation activities every year.
The Vice Chancellor congratulated him on his recent appointment as Chairman, Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) as well as on his broadcast outfit ‘Channels Television’ emerging the Best Television Station of the year for the 12th time.
Responding, Mr. John Momoh who expressed delight to receive the UNILAG delegation noted that his alma mater (UNILAG) would always be his first port of call whenever he thinks about things to do.
The Chairman Channels television expressed delight to be a part of the advancement of the university and be of assistance whenever the need arises “.…..there’s a lot of things that we need to do for the University, especially the Mass Communication Department, now that they’ve gotten a TV license for the institution we will be more involved, we will lend our support to work with the department both the Radio and the Television stations on campus”.
He said he is working on how products of UNILAG who excel can be absorbed into channels television and also use them for other channels being set up by the station as well as do a co-production with UNILAG TV, this he said will propel both institutions (Channels and UNILAG TV) to higher places.
In the VC’s entourage was the Deputy Vice Chancellor Development Services Professor Folasade Ogunsola, Deputy Vice Chancellor Management Services, Professor Ben Oghojafor, the Chairman UNILAG Radio and Television, Professor Ralph Akinfeleye among others.
