The Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos; Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has assured that under his
watch, the University will engage in cutting-edge researches which will address National issues.
Speaking today (May 8, 2018) shortly after his formal investiture as the twelfth Vice chancellor of the
University of Lagos, Prof. Ogundipe reiterated his six dimensional UNILAG Agenda which he said
will earn the University unequal National recognition and global relevance.

He noted that the UNILAG Agenda which will span through his tenure will focus on;
Uncompromising academic standards and excellent research output, Networking globally, strategising
locally and consolidating nationally as well as Improving the University’s finances by innovative
fund-raising activities, infrastructural development and entrepreneurship orientation.

Other parts of the Five year UNILAG Agenda are; Leadership that is transitional, transparent and
transformational, Accountability in academics, administration, finances and all University policies
and Greater innovation to make UNILAG greater than the best.
Prof. Ogundipe was particularly filled with gratitude to the entire governing council of the University
of Lagos, the senate and every other applicant for the show of support, sportsmanship and faith since
his emergence.

While appreciating his predecessor, Prof. Rahamon Bello with whom he worked as Director of
Academic planning and later as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics and Research, Prof. Ogundipe
reaffirmed his vision to rebuild UNILAG into a research hub just as he called on friends and
stakeholders of the university to support and complement his agenda to make the institution greater
among the comity of universities.

As part of his developmental efforts, the 12 th Vice chancellor of UNILAG said a group was recently
commissioned to develop Zero-emission cars that can be used on the UNILAG campus and in rural
areas to transport farm produces.
He noted that efforts are also on to build a modular refinery while a committee is being set up to
obtain a mining licence for the University, projects which he said will serve as laboratories for
students in the faculties of Science, Engineering and other related faculties.

Prof Ogundipe charged members of the University community to imbibe the spirit of collectivism and
value reorientation just as he affirmed his mission to rebrand the University of Lagos and make it a
globally relevant in research for the development of humanity.
Earlier before administering the ceremonial oath of office on the Vice chancellor, the Pro-chancellor
and chairman of council, Dr. Wale Babalakin(SAN) described Prof. Ogundipe as a phenomenal
administrator and scholar of repute whose appointment came at a crucial time in Nigeria’s educational

While congratulating Prof. Ogundipe on his appointment, Dr. Babalakin stressed the need for all
stakeholders to think out of the box and address the present financial shortfall plaguing university
education in Nigeria.

The Pro-chancellor particularly made a case for quality education rather than free education just as he
solicited continued support for the University of Lagos so as to sustain its position as the University of
first choice and the Nation’s pride.

Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe emerged as the twelfth Vice chancellor of the University of Lagos
after his appointment was approved by the governing council of the University on the 27 th of October,
2018 he assumed office on the 12 th of November, 2017 for a five year.
The investiture ceremony saw the registrar and secretary of council adorning the Vice chancellor with
his official robe of office while the Pro-chancellor presented him with the mace to symbolise his
authority as the twelfth vice chancellor of the University of Lagos.
