The Management of University of Lagos, has approved the immediate
enforcement of traffic rules and regulations, as well as the implementation
of fines and sanctions, against any act that contravene traffic rules and
regulations on campus.
This was made known via a press release, from the Information Unit of the
University. The rules are to create awareness and ensure that all users of
the roads within the University of Lagos community, act accordingly to
prevent accidents and traffic obstruction within the campus community.
Members and visitors of the University of Lagos community, are hereby
notified of behaviours that are contrary to the traffic rules and regulations
and the corresponding sanctions that go with them.
The offences range from unauthorised parking, learner drivers within the
campus, driving against one way, use of handset and smoking while
driving, to disobeying traffic rules of zebra crossing, manoeuvring at the
roundabout amongst others.
The fines range from 3000 naira to 15000 naira and as a result,
unauthorised parking on campus, attracts a fine of 5000 naira; learner
drivers seen on campus, over speeding, reckless driving and those
operating commercial motorcycle will pay a fine of 10,000, payable to the
University of Lagos account, amongst others.
This enforcement takes effect immediately, as vehicles of defaulters will be
impounded till all fines are paid.
